Audra_RLNH

It was awesome to catch up with Audra and learn more about her passion to end bullying and help youth who are going through a difficult time.  Audra speaks candidly about her own struggles with bullying and it is our hope that her powerful words will touch anyone struggling and remind them that they are amazing just as they are. Thank you for being YOU, Audra!

What are your top 3 favorite songs?

That is a tough question because I have many favorite songs but if I had to pick 3 that helped me through some tough times I would pick – 1) Mariah Carey- Through The Rain 2) Lee Ann Womack- I hope you Dance 3) Miley Cyrus- The Climb

If you could travel into any musical time or place, where would you go and why?

The musical time I would travel to would be either the late 60’s or 70’s. The place I would love to travel back in time to would be Woodstock 1969. I would have loved to be there. I have always been a huge music fan; some of my favorite acts include Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, and Jefferson Airplane. I also love the styles of clothing in the 70s as well. I like that a lot of the clothing styles are making their way back like hot pants and high-waisted shorts.

If you could invite 5 people to dinner (present or past) who would they be?

That’s a hard question but…. I would have to say

  • Elvis
  • Taylor Swift
  • Robert Plant
  • Martina McBride
  • Wynonna Judd

Do you have any hidden talents, hobbies or interests?

I love the History Channel, documentaries, concerts, swimming, museums, the beach, water parks, roller coasters and traveling.

What is your favorite highlight/moment in your music career thus far?

The first time I stepped on NBC’s “The Voice” Stage. That moment was life-changing for me. It has made all my dreams come true thus far. It gave me an amazing platform for my career.

What song best describes the soundtrack of your life?

The Climb by Miley Cyrus and Fly by Maddie & Tae – Both amazing songs about not giving up on your dreams even though it might get tough sometimes … Keep reaching for the stars and your time will come.

What’s your favorite part of performing?

My favorite part of performing is when my fans tell me I have inspired them to follow their dreams. It also warms my heart when my fans have told me that my songs have helped them through a tough time in their lives ….that is definitely one of my favorite parts … Inspiring and making a positive difference in others’ lives, that is truly priceless to me.

What’s your ‘go to’ shower song?

Shake It Off- Taylor Swift

What message do you want to share through your music?

The message I would love to share through my music is that you can do anything you put your mind to … I love singing and performing and it is all I wanted to do growing up. I want to send positive and inspiring messages through my music and of course I love writing about different things I have been through that I hope others can relate to.

What would you say to someone going through a rough time?

I would make sure to tell them how important they are and what a wonderful person they are. If they are being severely bullied I would encourage them to tell someone that can get involved and take action. Everyone deserves equal treatment. I have found that the best way to help someone going through a tough time is just being there for them and listening to them. I am sure they have heard “Things get better in time” or “Time heals all wounds” but to be honest in that moment you don’t feel like things will get better. Listen to them and give them pep talks. No one should be afraid to walk out of their house or go to school. I would remind them that they are perfect just the way they are and not to let anyone tell them otherwise. I would tell them to keep following their dreams. There will always be people that try and bring you down but remember that you can do anything you want in life, don’t give up on what you believe in and remember to help others along the way. My Grand pop always told me to be kind to everyone I meet because you never know what someone is going through.

If you had only 5 minutes to perform one song that could leave a great impact on the world today, what song would you perform and why?

Warrior by Demi Lovato … warrior is about making it through your struggles although you have been through so much.  It’s your song to let people know that you are strong enough to make it through anything.

Just for fun … fill in the blanks!

Without music, I would be lost.

Music is my soul.

My heroes are my parents.

Life is full of many different moments, feelings, adventures, and ups and downs.

How are you rocking your voice for good?

Tori Kelly- Funny, James Bay- Hold Back the River, Echosmith- Bright

If you could invite 5 people to dinner (present or past) who would they be?

Tori Kelly, Sam Smith, Taylor Swift, Colbie Caillat and Ryan Tedder from One Republic

Do you have any hidden talents, hobbies or interests?

I swim at high school, love photography & fashion.

What is your favorite highlight/moment in your music career thus far?

Meeting Colbie Caillat at NAMM and hearing her speak on the music industry, and behind her own music.

What song best describes the soundtrack of your life?

Funny by Tori Kelly

What’s your favorite part of performing?

Meeting new people wherever I go, and gaining experience.

What’s your ‘go to’ shower song?

Hard to admit, but anything Justin Bieber.

What message do you want to share through your music?

I pour out my heart into my lyrics of what I go through in my daily life, what I observe, what I feel, what I experience, good and bad; so I hope to connect with others through my music. Being only 15 and in high school, it is hard to know where you fit in, and also stay true to who you are, so I hope through my music, I can help and inspire others in a small way.

What would you say to someone going through a rough time?

Any obstacles or trials you might face, to know that you are not alone and everything happens for a reason.

If you had only 5 minutes to perform one song that could leave a great impact on the world today, what song would you perform and why?

I would perform my original song Paper Airplane. I wrote the song from a bullying experience at school, and I would want to share the message behind the lyrics, that you CAN change your place, your thoughts, your response, your actions, move beyond the hurt and discouragement, and soar above the negative.

Just for fun … fill in the blanks!

Without music, I would be eternally lost.

Music is my therapy.

My hero is my mom.

Life is beautiful.

How are you rocking your voice for good?

I hope through my music, I can encourage others to embrace who they are, and never give up. We all have a place, a purpose, a message and we are all important.

FEATURED ARTIST: MEREDITH O’CONNOR

We are happy to feature Free2Luv Advocate, teen pop artist and anti-bullying activist, Meredith O’Connor who rose to fame when her first song “Celebrity” went viral on YouTube reaching over two million views within the first two months of its release.  Meredith’s energy and passion for making a difference is contagious and we’re excited to highlight this beautiful advocate for change.

Meredith O'Connor

It was awesome to catch up with Meredith and get an inside peek on what drives this awesome young woman to travel the globe and inspire young people everywhere to stand up, speak out and be brave. Thanks, Meredith! You are a true inspiration.

What are your top 3 favorites songs?

Total Eclipse of the heart by Bonnie Tyler, that song and video basically emulates the word “epic” haha, Vienna by Billy Joel and Finale B. from Rent.

If you could travel into any musical time or place, where would you go and why?

Wicked. I used to really connect with Elphaba, and that show is a classic.

If you could invite 5 people to dinner (present or past) who would they be?

Jim Morrison from The Doors, Freddie Mercury from Queen

Do you have any hidden talents, hobbies or interests?

I do! I love to cook, horseback ride and surf!

What is your favorite highlight/moment in your music career thus far?

Finding out my concert in NYC, LA and London were all sold out was very exciting, but something that stands out to me is the time I was in Northern California, and one of the fans who came out to the show at the meet and greet said that she had never spoken in class because of anxiety until that day, and my music was the reason for it. I have been told remarkable stories of kids’ bravery a lot via Facebook, Instagram, and often times at meet and greets but they always stick with me. It’s hard to pick just one example. But I can tell you I know how much it can be a challenge to defeat anxiety, it’s like you’re fighting yourself, so you don’t even have yourself on your side. So hearing her do that was just really awesome and it touched me.

What song best describes the soundtrack of your life?

Legacy, by Eminem. He talks about how his differences and struggles growing up ended up serving him for the better, and that message is so important. That’s why my song “Just The Thing” also has a similar message behind it.

What’s your favorite part of performing?

I love when fans sing along to my songs. I also love when a song is starting and I can feel the anticipation and excitement in a live concert. Just that itself gives me even more adrenaline.

What’s your ‘go to’ shower song?

Definitely Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler. If you haven’t heart it, check out the main hook. It’s personally a challenge for me not to sing along to it, haha.

What message do you want to share through your music?

When I had issues with my confidence due to the abuse and bullying, I really wish I knew that the things that each and every thing that made me stand out, and every little thing that they picked on, including my height, my love for writing, and performing, would all one day be something that I thank myself everyday for never letting them change. That’s what I want my fans to see, because nothing personally bothers me more than not only when someone is bullied, but they actually let the words change them. That’s what I want to help stop.

What would you say to someone going through a rough time?

I would say, if you need help, know that you deserve it and life doesn’t have to be this painful. Whatever damage you have can be fixed, and it’s not easy, but it’s worth a try.

If you had only 5 minutes to perform one song that could leave a great impact on the world today, what song would you perform and why?

Probably Just The Thing because its message of accepting who you are is universal. I currently am on a world tour, and at my concert in London, shows in Greece and in America (soon to be Sydney, Australia) that is a fan favorite.

Just for fun … fill in the blanks!

Without music, I would be eternally lost.

Music is my right arm. Does that make any sense? At all? haha

My hero is Freddie Mercury.

Life is mysterious and a miracle.

How are you rocking your voice for good?

Ever since “Celebrity” first became a hit, having a fan base and this type of attention was a new thing to me, but honestly a dream come true because since then I made it my priority each day to be the role model that I wish I once had.

FEATURED ARTIST: ALEXX CALISE

We are happy to feature the amazing singer, songwriter, guitarist and Free2Luv Advocate, Alexx Calise!  Alexx delivers a sound that is both fresh and uniquely her own, combining crunchy rock riffs with probing lyrics and hooky pop melodies. This passionate young woman is rocking her voice for good and we’re delighted to share more about her.

https://free2luv.org

It was super awesome to sit down with Alexx and learn more about the amazing person behind the music. Thank you for sharing your incredible words of wisdom, Alexx!

What are your top 3 favorites songs?

I Only Have Eyes for You by the Flamingos, Claire de Lune by Debussy, Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles

If you could travel into any musical time or place, where would you go and why?

I’d probably travel back to the 90’s grunge era. I’ve always felt such a connection to that period in music, and my own music is heavily influenced by artists like Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, silverchair, and more. It was so beautifully melancholic, so emotive and expressive, and so musical.

If you could invite 5 people to dinner (present or past) who would they be?

Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ben Franklin, Mark Twain, Leonardo Davinci, George Washington

Do you have any hidden talents, hobbies or interests?

I own a kids party company, and over the years have learned how to face paint, twist balloons, and perform magic tricks. I started the company with only 3 costumes, and now I manage over 20 people, have relationships with event planners all over California, and carry over 100 different costumes. I also do a little acting on the side, and in my spare time, I like to read, write and play music, and work out.

What is your favorite highlight/moment in your music career thus far?

I’ve been lucky in that I’ve had several awesome opportunities, but I’d say one I’m very, very proud of was performing my song “Survive” recently on Lifetime’s “Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition”.

What song best describes the soundtrack of your life?

Claire de Lune. It is one of the most tranquil, emotive, and moving pieces of music I’ve ever heard.

What’s your favorite part of performing?

It’s an indescribable feeling really. I feel like a totally different person when I’m up on stage, like nothing else matters. It doesn’t matter what’s going on in my personal life. For those 45 minutes or however long I’m up there, I’m completely Zen. All of the struggles and hardships that I face on a day-to-day basis as an artist are worth it just so that I can have those precious moments on stage.

What’s your ‘go to’ shower song?

I don’t have a go to song per se, but I will admit, I do sing in the shower pretty frequently. I love the reverb on my voice, haha.

What message do you want to share through your music?

I just want people to be inspired by what I do. I write from life, and my own personal experiences. If someone can take something positive from what I have to say, then I know I’ve done my job as an artist. That’s what separates great art from good art.

What would you say to someone going through a rough time?

This too shall pass. Nothing lasts forever, be it good or bad. Take comfort knowing that the universe will always take care of you, and never give you more than you can handle.

If you had only 5 minutes to perform one song that could leave a great impact on the world today, what song would you perform and why?

That’s a very difficult question. I suppose I’d perform my song “Cry” since it’s already made some waves, especially in the dance community thanks to Lifetime’s “Dance Moms”…or perhaps I haven’t written that song just yet, haha…

Just for fun … fill in the blanks!

Without music, I would be lost.

Music is reason for living.

My heroes are my mother and father.

Life is hard, and not always fair. But it can also be incredibly fun!

How are you rocking your voice for good?

I’d like to think that most all my music sends a positive message. It’s probing and introspective, and it encourages listeners to pick themselves up from their bootstraps and carry on. As a person, I’m very strong willed and motivated, and I always strive to be the best I can be. I hope I can influence others to do the same. You should love yourself for who you are, have self respect, and be willing to work hard for the things that you want. Never wait to be great. Start now.

FEATURED ARTIST: DDENDYL

We are super excited to feature Ddendyl, American blues singer/songwriter who as she puts it “being musical is in my DNA”.  Not only is Ddendyl an accomplished and incredible talent, we find her spirit, passion and zest for life contagious!

https://free2luv.org

When we sat down with Ddendyl, we just loved hearing more about this passionate and talented musician.  We just can’t get enough of her and you’ll see why!

What are your top 3 favorites songs?

Feeling Good- Nina Simone

Wild Horses- Rolling Stones

Folsom Prison Blues- Johnny Cash

If you could travel into any musical time or place, where would you go and why?

I would travel back to the 1950’s to sing with my Idol Johnny Cash. I may have even tried to take the place of June Carter 😉 Im pretty crazy about the 50’s and early 60’s. My style reflects that too in not just my music but my fashion. Theres something about that whole time period that i just love. The creativity that came from that era totally transformed music

If you could invite 5 people to dinner (present or past) who would they be?

June and Johnny Cash (of course), Etta James, Elvis, Daniel Day Lewis

Do you have any hidden talents, hobbies or interests?

No real hidden talents except for maybe exceptionally terrible driving skills

Hobbies: I LOVE going to see movies in the middle of the day, in the middle of the week, all by myself.

I also LOVE going to the zoo (which happens to be right in my neighborhood and is free!) When the weather is nice, I go and hang out with the animals 2-3 times a week. I love grabbing a coffee and going for my morning walk there!

I like to paint as well, it’s a hobby I share with my mother.

Interests: I love old westerns (my dad and I used to watch them together religiously), pretending to cook 5 star meals, camping (in a tent not an RV), and road trips!

What is your favorite highlight/moment in your music career thus far?

Being on The Voice has to take first place right now, The exposure has been amazing and the experience was life changing!

What song best describes the soundtrack of your life?

It’s actually a song I wrote called “Home.” I wrote it about being on the road constantly as a musician and how wonderful it is to come home to the one you love.

What’s your favorite part of performing?

I love to make people feel. I love the look on someone’s face when my music has reached them on a deep level. It’s a priceless feeling. So many times I’ll be playing a song like “Come Away With Me” by Norah Jones and someone will tell me after my show how they were having the worst day until I played that song. You never know which songs will move which people, and it’s a surprise at every show to find that out. I love hearing stories, even the sad ones from my audience members; and learning how my music has made their day better and why. Besides just having fun, this is my sole reason for performing.

What’s your ‘go to’ shower song?

That totally depends on my mood, but lately I’ve been jamming to “How You Like Me Now” by The Heavy or “Rock Steady” by Aretha Franklin

What message do you want to share through your music?

I love to write music that is relatable to everyone. I write about love and loss, good times and bad times.  When I was a teen, and even now when I go through rough times I like to listen to music that reflects what I’m going through. So I aim to do the same in my music.  With the exception of a few songs that are just very raw and show a lot of vulnerability, the messages I put in my songs are about love, hope and strength.  All my upbeat songs are empowering. They have very strong messages about letting go of the negativity in your life.

What would you say to someone going through a rough time?

I would say that I am so sorry for your hard times, and I can only imagine what you are feeling. Just know that I am here as a listening ear and I truly believe that things will get better, even if it takes some time. But I also think that these rough times often can mold us into very strong people! And going through some tough situations can prepare us to help others down the road.

If you had only 5 minutes to perform one song that could leave a great impact on the world today, what song would you perform and why?

Just one! That’s impossible! well, I think it would have to be “Redemption Song” by Bob Marley. It has a wonderful message, and I am related to him…plus Johnny Cash covered it 😉 But in all seriousness, it is such a positive song that is true for the whole world.

Just for fun … fill in the blanks!

Without music, I would be dazed and confused.

Music is passion.

My heroes are my parents.

Life is exciting!

How are you rocking your voice for good?

First and foremost, I have joined Free2Luv and that’s something I’m really proud to be a part of, so I will be offering my voice in service to their cause in whatever ways they need!

I try to do benefit concerts in my home town as well as where I live in DC. I take as many opportunities as I can to give back to my community! I also have a growing fan base of young women that I try to be a mentor to. I do my very best to respond to all of their emails and messages to offer encouragement to chase after their dreams and never give up!

FEATURED ARTIST: GABBIE RAE

Meet Gabbie Rae, a 16 year old vocal prodigy with plans to take over today’s rock world.  This multi-talented teen is passionate about music AND making the world a better place for youth.

https://free2luv.org

We recently had an opportunity to sit down with one of our favorite rockers and can’t wait to share this exclusive interview with you. You’ll see why we love her so!

If you could travel into any musical time or place, where would you go and why?

I think I would travel back to the 80s. Most of my favorite songs and artists are from that time. I would love to experience it for myself with the big hair and cray cray leather pants!

If you could invite 5 people to dinner (present or past) who would they be?

I would have to invite my inspirations through the years. Heart ( Ann and Nancy Wilson), Michael Sweet and the late Ronnie James Dio would totally be on that list. Sandra Bullock is someone who I’ve always looked up to so she would have an invite, and let’s not forget my celebrity crush Jimmy Fallon!

Do you have any hidden talents, hobbies or interests?

When I’m not working on music I love doing what I can to help out the animals. I adore my furry friends!!

What is your favorite highlight/moment in your music career thus far?

There are so many things that have been happening for my career lately. Me and my partner in crime Patrick Kennison covered Ronnie James Dios’ hit Rainbow in the Dark. It was picked up by the Dio foundation and they have been sharing it on the official Facebook and they have given the video continued praise. We are so grateful! That opened up a lot of doors for us. We were added to the lineup for the Monsters of Rock Cruise! We had such a great time rocking out with legendary bands like Cinderella and Tesla. Patrick and I have also opened up for Dizzy Reed (Guns N Roses) and Alex Grossi (Quiet Riot) at The Viper Room and we will be performing at the Whisky a Go Go with Stryper! The next step for us is to get some original material out there. Patrick and I have been constantly in the studio working on originals and it’s been so awesome! The music defines me. I hope it gives everyone chills like it does to me. There’s a lot of highlights in my career right now!

What’s your favorite part of performing?

I love how much performing live makes me feel. It’s such an adrenaline rush. The best though is performing with my band. We feed energy off of each other and it’s the best. I also love looking out in the audience and seeing everyone having a great time. It’s what I live for!

What’s your ‘go to’ shower song?

I love listening to Broadway so I usually sing lots and lots of Broadway in the shower!

What message do you want to share through your music?

Nothing is impossible. I am only 16 and I have done so much already and I know that it’s only going to go up from here. I want everyone to be reminded when they hear my music that even the biggest dreams are possible.

What would you say to someone going through a rough time?

I think when you are going through a rough patch you feel like you’re stuck in this deep hole and you can’t climb out. It’s really scary. The best advice I could give is that you need to push all of the doubt out of your mind and believe that you will make it through whatever it is that you may be going through and you will come out stronger.

Just for fun … fill in the blanks!

Without music, I would be lost.

Music is my everything.

Life is full of opportunities.

How are you rocking your voice for good?

It’s super important to write songs that have special meaning. My goal is to write songs about spreading love around the world and to hopefully spread this message every way possible.
