Free2Luv Celebrates Our Collective Joy During Pride Month

Back in 2011, we built Free2Luv on the foundation that LUV is ALWAYS STRONGER than hate. It is stronger than bigotry, ignorance, or any form of discrimination.

Right now, many communities, including the LGBTQ+ and trans communities, are under attack, and it is more important than ever that we take a stand and celebrate our community this Pride month and beyond. Our joy, passion, creativity, and lives cannot be diminished. It’s time to shine brightly and unite in LUV to celebrate ourselves and each other. We see you, hear you, and value you – immeasurably!

What does queer and trans joy mean to you?

We are thrilled to announce the return of our national art contest, Queer Joy Amplified, in partnership with Seattle Pride and sponsored by Orange Barrel Media, Blick Art Materials, and Artist & Craftsman Supply. This year’s contest theme, “Louder, invites LGBTQIA2S+ artists from across the country to express what queer and trans joy means to them through original artwork.

Now in its second year, Queer Joy Amplified continues Free2Luv’s mission to support and illuminate diverse creative voices, promote healing and self-expression, and celebrate the strength and beauty of the LGBTQIA+ community. Submissions are open through June 30, 2025, and artists are encouraged to submit as many entries as they’d like. Enter here.

“It is vital that we cultivate safe spaces and environments where Queer and Trans youth can express themselves freely and authentically,” said Free2Luv Founder and President, Tonya Sandis. “We are thrilled to partner with Seattle Pride to launch our second annual Queer Joy Amplified art contest, a powerful celebration of the Queer and Trans community and their undeniable right to be seen, to experience joy, and to thrive. Queer and Trans individuals have always been at the forefront of our communities and pivotal movements that reshape our society for the better. Their existence enriches the world in profound ways, simply by being who they truly are.”

“Art has always been a powerful tool for resistance, self-care, and connection in our community,” said Seattle Pride Executive Director Patti Hearn. “With this year’s theme, Louder, we’re turning up the volume on creative expression and encouraging LGBTQIA2S+ artists to share their work and show up louder than ever.”

Community Outreach: PRIDE IN THE PARK

In partnership with Seattle Pride, Free2Luv celebrated Pride in the Park, a family-friendly festival that offered an extraordinary day of joy, visibility, and community connection. We had a fantastic time celebrating Pride with so many beautiful LGBTQ+ families. We engaged in meaningful conversations, expressed ourselves creatively, and celebrated our collective joy! Families contributed to our empowering community art murals, created heart art, and participated in the Queer Joy Amplified Art Contest.

Thank you, Seattle Pride, for hosting this fantastic event, and thank you, Symetra, for your sponsorship and support of the LGBTQ+ community’s mental wellness through the arts.

“Every program, campaign, and initiative we undertake is innovatively crafted to celebrate the Queer and Trans community, affirming their right to be seen, to experience joy, and to thrive.

Now, more than ever, as we witness a troubling rise in anti-trans and LGBTQ+ legislation, we must unite in solidarity and honor our community.

We envision a future where everyone can live authentically, and we want you to know that you are seen, valued, and loved.”

We wish everyone an amazing Pride and invite you to be inspired by our beautiful and diverse community, who share their hearts and stories here. Know that you are loved, valued, and cherished exactly as you are!
